Chinese Tombs
It is hoped that the Republic of China government in Taiwan will send investigators to the site of three abandoned tombs found in East New Britain. The tombs are said to belong to Republic of China soldiers from the Second World War. Historical records show that Japan sent about 1,600 Republic of China soldiers to Rabaul as slave laborers. Some of the soldiers died on their way to Papua New Guinea, while others lost their lives in prisoner of war camps. Many of them were buried in Rabaul.
