Ozone Action Poster

World Environment Day was yesterday - the 5th of June. As part of the celebrations there is a poster competition for children between 13 and 18 that ends on the 12th of June. Kookaburra/Kumul Flyover

A 600 metre bridge near Jackson's airport has been opened in Port Moresby. Prime Minister Peter O'Neill officially cut the ribbon and opened the K165 million bridge built near Jacksons Airport on the 31st of May. The flyover has been completed just in time for the 2015 Pacific Games.

PM O'Neill also renamed the Kookaburra Flyover as the Kumul Flyover to it as being truly Papua New Guinean.

Trukai Fun Run

The annual Trukai Fun Run will take place after the official opening of the Pacific Games. The run will be held on the 5th of July just before the start of the triathlon events.

The fun run has been an annual event around the country for the last 32 years and this is the 16th year that Trukai has supported the event.





Pacific Games Relay

The Oil Search Pacific Games Relay has reached Lae after travelling through the Nawaeb District of Morobe province. The relay finished at the Sir Ignatius Kilage stadium with the Baton being taken on a final lap of honour by the Snax Tigers rugby league team before being handed back to Oil Search ambassador Bart Philemon, who accepted the Baton and departed by helicopter.

The Relay has made its way to Milne Bay. The Baton was handed over to Milne Bay Provincial Governor, Titus Philemon, at Gurney airport.

Pacific Games News

Prime Minister Peter O'Neill has announced the Duke of York, Prince Andrew, will open the Pacific Games. The Games Organising Committee (GOC) was pleased that a member of the royal family would open the 15th Pacific Games in Port Moresby on the 4th of July.

Men's Softball Axed

Due to a lack of entries Men's softball has been axed from the Pacific Games. The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) has admitted the sport's cancellation was "disappointing". Only hosts PNG put forward a team for the men's competition and Port Moresby 2015. The women's tournament will go ahead as planned.

Betel Nut Confiscated

A record haul of Betel nut has been confiscated in the run up to the Pacific Games. Police have recently confiscated a record 1,000 bags of betel nut in a dawn raid in Hanuabada. No one was arrested in the raid, which police say was part of a clean-up effort ahead of next month's Pacific Games.

An MP says there's no reason for West Papuan refugees to fear for their safety after the country ratified an extradition treaty with Indonesia. Attorney General, Ano Pala, says the treaty is important as criminals have been using the porous border between the two countries for smuggling and other illegal activities.
