Warning: PNG web sites seem to come and go. The fact of life is that it costs money to host a web site and there is not much return on the outlay to most businesses in PNG.

If you do click on a link and use the services or even have some comments to make then please contact the people at the relevant web site and let them know so they at least know that someone has gained some value from their efforts. If you are so inclined then please mention that you heard about them from this web site. -- The PNG Gossip Newsletter.

PNG Power & Telikom Link

Telikom will lease fibre-optic capacity from PNG Power. PNG Power has installed fibre-optic infrastructure on much of its high voltage transmission network around the country. PNG Power uses its fibre network to provide system control communications between generation facilities and load centres across the country. This only uses a small amount of the overall capacity of the fibre network and Telikom will be able to use some of the excess capacity.

Tiensten Disqualified

Jeffery Nape, the speaker of parliament, has announced the disqualification of former planning minister, Paul Tiensten, as a Member of Parliament because it is claimed he had missed three consecutive sittings of parliament, a constitutional trigger for disqualification.

The disqualification has triggered moves by the opposition to have the speaker arrested and charged with contempt of court because his powers to suspend ministers are currently under the Supreme Court's microscope because he tried to dump former Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare from his seat, using the same three sitting rule.

PNG Gold Corp

PNG Gold Corporation has announced assay results from 31 recently completed diamond drill holes on its Imwauna Project, Normanby Island, Milne Bay Province, eastern PNG. The results re-affirm the high grade nature of the deposit. The mineralized zone graded 3.0 g/t or more in 65% of the holes while eleven holes (35%) intersected zones assaying greater than 10.0 g/t Au. There is no strong correlation observed between grade and thickness, although the thickest zones (i.e. those greater than 4 m wide) all grade between 5 and 15 g/t Au.
